On Friday last week Year 5 led us in a celebration of International Mother Tongue Day which occurred on Tuesday 21st February. Once again, we were treated to a truly remarkable presentation which had been largely developed by our Year 5 pupils themselves. They spoke confidently in a range of languages but particularly focused on the six languages which our Year 5 pupils speak at home. The children acted out the story of ‘The Hare and the Tortoise’ and accompanied it with a narrative in French. A particular poignant moment came when a group of children read their prayers in their home languages.
Not surprisingly, we received some wonderfully positive comments back from parents and visitors, so a massive thank you to Miss Gauld, Miss Crombie and our pupils in Year 5. What a fantastic celebration of different languages and cultures!
